OnPoint Great Danes
Hi everyone! We are so glad you have come to visit our website! Have you liked and followed us on facebook and instagram? If not, please do! We post some very knowledgeable information for you all. While some info is directed at Great Danes, others are appropriate for all breeds.
We are a small Great Dane breeder located in Wisconsin. We breed for temperament, health, and conformation. Our main goal is to breed to the conformation standard, while not loosing the health and temperament of the breed. Our dogs are registered AKC, and all of our resulting puppies will be AKC registered as well.
All of our dogs live in our home with us, and spend their days laying on the couch, dog beds, or our bed. They are family first and foremost, and we do not operate a kennel. The love of a Great Dane is second to none, and the joy one can bring to you is something you will have to experience for yourself.
What do we require from you?
When purchasing a dog from us, we expect that they will become part of your family, you will provide the correct training to have a well-mannered dog, they will live indoors with you, and you will take care of them as if they were your children. It is recommended that a crate is purchased, and crate training is continued once they leave our care. Great Danes have a strong attachment to their family, so for their safety a crate is recommended when you are not home. We require that our application be filled out prior any consideration of our puppies. We ask that you seek a great veterinarian within a reasonable distance of you that has knowledge of giant breeds such as Great Danes. Once your application is approved, we may contact you via phone and just speak with you about your wishes. We require a contract to be signed, and a non-refundable deposit to reserve your puppy.
We do offer a discount for repeat offenders...haha. You will quickly learn that Great Danes are like potato chips, you cannot have just one.
What will you receive when purchasing a puppy from us?
You will receive a 3 year genetic health guarantee, and lifetime support from us. Your puppy will have had 2 sets of vaccinations, and all the necessary deworming. You will also receive a puppy pack containing various items such as a collar, leash, small bag of dog food and more. You will be provided with the vaccination schedule, lot numbers, and deworming schedule.
What are we feeding our puppies and adults?
We feed a 1:1 mixture of Diamond High-Energy and Diamond Maintenance. We also feed Nutrisource Large Breed Adult, and Nutrisource Large Breed Puppy (weaning-6 weeks of age).
Why do we feed this?
We feed these foods because of their protein and fat levels, as well as their calcium to phosphorus ratios. It is extremely important that you do not feed a high protein, high calcium ratio to your growing dane puppy. Your puppy should grow slowly to help preserve their joints and avoid any issues down the road with growing. You can also avoid HOD (Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy).
What is HOD?
HOD is inflammation in the growth plates of longer, larger bones. This can cause severe pain to your puppy and can be presented as lameness, whining, swelling, pain, loss of appetite and fever. HOD typically will go away with time, but its always good to contact your vet if you believe your puppy has it. They can provide some oral care to help your puppy through the pain.
